Mark Tomlinson
Optometrist & Photographer
There is a dynamic connection between my two “walks of life”
To fully appreciate the beauty and magnitude of everything around us we must open our eyes and our minds. The best photographic equipment we have is our eyes, every picture you see started as an image through the eyes of the photographer. Photography is the delicate art of observation and imagination to create the perfect picture, and of course at that moment in time you hope that you have your camera with you.
What I love about photography is that it capture’s a moment, possibly one never to be repeated. So, If you see something that moves you, and then you capture it, you keep that moment for ever. Before taking a photograph you should pause for a moment, and think about what you are seeing, often you will find simplicity is a key feature. I remember in my younger years at night school being told “less is more”.
My interest in photography started when I was about 14 years old, soon after that I enrolled for a night school course at the local Art College…..light relief from my formal exams! In those days you had to learn the basics, this was well before the digital age, where your camera had a film, you developed the film into a negative, from which you produced your final print. All of this done in a darkened room, possibly this is why becoming an Optometrist seemed a natural progression!
A lot of my photography is done while travelling, I have explored many places far away from England with my long suffering wife Karen and my trusty camera.
I have a Diploma in Photoshop and a Diploma in Lightroom, and by July 2020 will have completed my Professional Diploma in Photography.
I hope you enjoy looking through my portfolio, please leave a comment if you want, either in the comments box or via email in the contact page.
